“So, is either of you going to tell me what is going on?” Samantha asked of Astarte and the Stranger.
“It’s simple really; my umm… friend here has been held in the military facility known as Area 51 since the crash in 1947. It’s now 51, right? There’s… something different about my friend, something the military want to use for them….” Astarte replies, being interrupted by a loud roar.
“…selves.” She adds turning in the direction of the roar.
The sound of running, came from behind the trio, who was it other than the Willow Twins?
“John, Ronald, what are you doing here?” Samantha questioned.
“Fugitive! Megaphone! Roar!” The two said in unison.
“Hello boys. I suppose that makes our trio into a quintet. Lovely word quintet.” Uttered Astarte.
“Do you really think this is the time to be talking about words that sound nice?” Samantha snapped though softly.
“Ooh tetchy. Listen unlike everyone else here I know what that roar was. I should have seen it coming but I didn’t. This is a very dangerous point for my friend, he still has no idea who is and that makes him vulnerable.”
“You know I’m right here, right?” Asked the stranger.
“Hmmm… yeah of course I always know where you are.”
Another louder growl rumbles through the town causing buildings to shake and windows to shatter.
“What in the name of space was that?” John asked clearly startled.
“I don’t know John. What do you think it was?” His brother replied.
“I wasn’t asking you stupid.”
“Right there’s no need to be like that.
“That my ginger haired friends was the call to run inside.” Astarte responded surprisingly calmly before running back into Samantha’s house, quickly followed by the rest of the group.
Black Project Alpha had indeed been unleashed. Colonel Gregory Masters had lost much of his intelligence but in its place he had gained strength beyond any mere mortal and abilities. Abilities he did not yet understand yet were extraordinarily powerful, there are many creatures that have powers yes but few like this.
“I’m going to find you Mogul! I will tear your limbs from your body! I will make you suffer! You and that lady friend of yours!” His deep inhuman voice rung through the town like a bell on steroids.
“Mogul? Who’s Mogul? Does he mean me? Is that my name?” Wondered the Stranger aloud.
“We can answer that. Mogul was the name they found on the ship you crashed in.” One of the Twins answered.
“Mogul isn’t your name. They were poorly inscribed letters in the crashed object. Not very inventive but it’s something but yes he does mean you.” Astarte affirmed.
“So, what now? We can’t just sit here and do nothing.” Asked the Stranger.
“Your right, we can’t. We need to get it away from the town and blow it up. I’m not usually one for brute force but that may be the best bet, a direct confrontation could be very messy and definitely very dangerous. Are any of you any good at explosives?”
John puts his hand up, but Ronald slaps it down.
“Don’t be silly! We can’t do this!” Ronald hissed.
“Yes, we can! What choice do we have?” John retorted.
Ronald sighs his head down in defeat.
“Well that’s decided. We lure it away from town and blow it up. Any questions?” Asserted Astarte.
“Just one. Are you out of your mind?” Questioned Samantha.
“Oh, very much so but I’m the only hope any of you have right now but my friend ‘Mogul’, you are going to have to stay here it’s safer that way.”
“I’m not staying here and letting others fight my battles!” He countered.
Astarte sighs loudly.
“You always were a stubborn one weren’t you? Fine.. me, you and Samantha will distract Colonel Hairy Fucker so the Willow Twins can set up the explosives to blow him up.” Astarte affirmed.
“Hold on I didn’t say I agreed to this.” Samantha refuted.
“You are still here aren’t you?” Astarte countered.
“It’s my house!”
“I know!” Astarte shouted jauntily as she ran for the door.
Colonel Masters had got to the town quickly and with no difficulty. His troops were holding back, too scared to do anything else. He didn’t think he needed them anyway. He saw the Stranger, Astarte and Samantha running from the house.
“There you are Mogul and that interfering woman too!” He howled with animalistic delight.
He attempted to crush them under his ape-ish fists, but they were too fast. With another growl a building collapsed covering half their path, but the trio were quick to run to the other side and get through.
“Why am I doing this? Why am I doing this?” Samantha repeated over and over to herself as she ran out of town.
Colonel Masters was quick to follow them, never even considering the possibility of a trap. The Willow twins had decided on the location for the explosives. The brothers owned a van between them, they mostly used to hunt for evidence for their conspiracy theories. It was painted black with the words ‘Do you believe?’ and ‘The Conspiracy Machine’ painted in bright green paint across the sides. The pair loaded up the van with their explosives equipment and started to drive out to the agreed spot.
They had no trouble seeing the gorilla-esque beast.
“Look at the size of that thing Ronald!”
“I’m trying NOT to do that John.”
“Do you think we have enough explosives?”
“I’d rather not think about what happens if we don’t.”
Soon enough they reached the spot and wired up the explosive, it was set to go off on a timer, Ronald waited in position to set it off when he was told to. Soon enough the Colonel, the Stranger, Samantha and Astarte came into view.
“Set it off now!” Called Astarte.
Ronald obeyed and sprinted to his brother who had gone to what they hoped was a safe distance away from the creature. With a breaking sounding the timer stopped dead.
“The timer has broken! It’s going to have to be set off manually!” Yelled John.
“But that’s not safe!” Ronald added half for his brother and half for the others.
Samantha had stopped in her tracks and looked at the situation that was unfolding terrified. It was the stranger who reacted first running toward the detonator.
“No don’t!” Astarte cried holding out her hand to him helplessly.
“I’m sorry.” He replied simply as he set it off by hand.
